Myth #1 : All you need is an internet connection and Voice Over IP will work.
Truth: Phone calls should “just work”. Knowing your internet connection is very important when deploying VoIP. Latency is the most important factor in your internet connection. Not all internet technologies are created equal. DSL while cost effective has no Service Level Agreement , so even with only 1 phone attached to the internet, VoIP might fail. Having an internet connection that has low latency , Service Level Agreements (sla) and can have Quality of Service (QoS) is key. Anything else is just a guess.

Myth #2 : I won’t have any phone bills if I use VoIP.
Truth: In most situations VoIP is able to save cost. However, there is a monthly fee attached to both Hosted and On-Site VoIP PBXs allowing you to call other phones. It is the connection to the public phone network that has a monthly cost.

Myth #3 : You can only call other VoIP Phones

Myth #4 : VoIP is unreliable
Truth: VoIP is actually more reliable than your average PBX because it can be easily clustered. If one VoIP server has a failure another server can quickly and seamlessly take its place. If you were to get a traditional PBX in a clustered environment, you would be spending thousands and thousands of dollars. VoIP Phones can also use multiple carriers, making the 99.999% up time even higher to 99.9999% up time since it would take (2) carriers to be down for your phones to be down.

Myth #5 : VoIP quality is bad
Truth: In a hosted PBX environment your internet connection determines the quality of your voice. It is very important to know your Internet Service Provider and how they connect you to your Hosted PBX. Not all internet connections are created equal as well. Blog on Better Internet.

Myth #6 : VoIP is complicated
Truth: Traditional PBXs could only be managed from specialized software and needed “66 blocks” with physical wiring cross connects to work. With VoIP, all management is done via a web browser and phone connections are as simple as plugging into the local area network.

Myth #7 : VoIP is not secure
Truth: It takes a $9 tool to listen in on traditional analog phone conversations. Choosing Aloha Tone and Tri-net Solutions in combination will guarantee your voice is secured. VoIP calls travel over a data line which Tri-net Solutions can secure. Once at the secured data center, Aloha Tone terminates the calls to a Digital PRI which is secured by Aloha Tone and TW Telecom.
